Halloween Walk 2017 Camping Weekend at High Cliff State Park

Unseasonably warm weather brought thousands of Leaf Peepers and Trick-or-Treaters to High Cliff State Park for the 2017 Halloween Walk. Our family arrived on a Friday evening. We set up camp on a Friday night while the sky glowed with a vibrant pink sunset, a wonderful background for the brightly colored maples. We enjoyed a nice campfire and a quiet night in camp.

In the morning I hiked the trails following the perimeter of the park while my family slept in a bit. The trails were busy and other than a few squirrels and a blue jay, I didn't see any wildlife. When I returned to camp I made bacon and eggs and we decorated our campsite. Soon enough Ams jumped on her scooter, and we headed out to check out the spooky decorations around the family campground.

trick-or-treating the haunted campground.

Oak leaves at peak color.

Maple leaf looks like a little Halloween goblin.

Mmmm bacon and eggs after a long hike.

Oatmeal, bananas and pecans....yum!

We had a late lunch of chili and Fritos and found Ams a few things to do around camp while she patiently waited the arrival of her cousins. We played some Scategories. Ams found a stump to climb on and used it for a lookout post.

Calling all sweet toothes!

Checking out some of the other camper's decorations.

Bony campers.

I'll get you my pretty...muah-ha-ha-ha-ha.

No caption necessary...

I just learned how pumpkin pies are made! Tee-hee.

Ams and one of her cousins are ready to start Trick-or-Treating.

The kids had a wonderful time Trick-or-Treating and checking out the scary decorations. We headed back to camp to roast hot dogs over the campfire, and enjoyed everyone's company. Inviting loved ones to join us for the Halloween Walk and to share good times around the campfire made camping extra fun.

All too soon it was time for folks to head home and we settled in for a nice night in camp. Sometime overnight the temperature dropped. In the morning it began to rain. High Cliff State Park is a popular spot for a picnic, hike, or jog near the Fox Cities. With beautiful limestone cliffs alongside Lake Winnebago, High Cliff State Park features about 16 miles (25.7 km) trails including an 8.5 mile (13.7 km) horse and bicycle trail. It also features a marina, beach, lookout tower with a 30 mile (48.3 km) view, great views of the lake from the cliff top, Indian burial mounds, a statue of Chief Red Bird, and a general store museum. A great place place near the Fox Cities to get away for a few hours and hike or cross country ski.

Map of my morning walk to hike around the entire park and also to check out some of the decorations.

That's all for now, let's get outdoors and keep our wild places wild.
