Lodi Marsh and Eastern Lodi Marsh Segments

The Lodi Marsh and Eastern Lodi Marsh Segments of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail meander along ridges and wind through woods, prairie, and oak savanna. The Lodi Marsh Segment comprises 1.6 miles (2.6 km) of the Ice Age Trail, although to hike the lasso-shaped trail requires 2.1 miles (3.4 km) of hiking as a portion of the trail is a loop, and a portion requires backtracking. The Eastern Lodi Marsh Segment is 3.2 miles (5.1 km) from Pleasant Street to Lodi-Springfield Road and requires a complete backtrack.

We parked at the Robertson trail head, hiked the Lodi Marsh Segment, then hiked the Eastern Lodi Marsh Segment as far as Wisconsin State Highway 113.  Unusual for a Monday in February, I had company on the trail. My husband hiked with me, and we ran into a dog walker. Lodi Marsh is an easy hike, although hikers should expect a few gentle slopes. Eastern Lodi Marsh is moderate due to hills. These well-blazed and nicely maintained trails prove easy to follow. They showcase the work of hard-working volunteers who make the Ice Age Trail the gem that it is.

Trail Conditions - Hard-packed ice and snow covering well blazed, easy to follow trails.  Temperature 11°F (-11.7°C) and overcast.

Distance Covered Today - 7.8 miles (12.5 km).

Difficulty - Easy to moderate, hilly.

Location - Ice Age Trail parking area on Lodi-Springfield Road about 2 miles southwest of the city of Lodi.

Highlights - Views of the surrounding hills.

Total Official Ice Age Trail Miles Completed to Date - Total official Ice Age Trail distance completed 43.6 miles (69.7 km). Trail 25.7 miles (41 km), connecting route 17.9 miles (28.8 km).

Total Additional Backtracking Miles Completed - 42.5  miles (67.9 km).
